Chicago property owners- buying properties needing permits

I've being looking into buying my first rental property. I came across a single family property that has a kitchen in the basement without a permit as well as the deck on the backyard. Would I still need to fix the permit issue, if I take down the kitchen and don't plan to use the basement as a rental?

@Bertha Spezzia - Are you saying that there is a permit violation or that you just noticed that they did certain work without pulling permits?

    1. If there is a violation then you need to address the issues and have the city sign off on it.  (you can check on the city website here for violations:  https://www.chicago.gov/city/e...

    2. If there was work done without a permit but no issue with the city - no action really needs to be taken.  You could even rent the unit out if you wanted to - that's somewhat of the norm in Chicago to have non-conforming garden units.
