US and non - US citizen want to start RE investing - any tips?

Dear BP members,

my best friend from US and me, a German citizen, want to start real estate investing. Over the last years we were able to save up enough money to now consider the next logical step: Choosing the correct business form as well as thinking of taxation.

The specific issue is this: I am a 32 year old German passport holder (working for the German gov as a development aid consultant in Sudan but that's a different story), my best friend is an entrepreneur from Cincinnati, Ohio. We don't know what business form would be ideal and how to avoid taxation becoming a nightmare. It is very hard to find any tips on how to start RE investing with such a specific constellation of foreign and non-foreign investors.

Hence, I would love to get in touch with someone experienced in RE investing together with foreign partners. I am aware that my request might be quite special which is why I am reaching out here hoping to get some feedback.

I would really appreciate any tips or leads you might have.

Thanks a lot and best regards!
Yannic
