Interested in cross-border investments - from Toronto

Hi BP!

I'm from Toronto, ON (originally from Vancouver, BC). I'm fairly new to the world of real estate investing, hoping to make some connections with some folks. My day job is currently in software development with my saved money primarily invested in the stock market at the moment, and hoping to diversify into REI.

My goal is to generate a monthly cash flow of $4k/month in the next 3-5 years. My current research has been been primarily focused on multi-family homes in Ontario (Windsor, Guelph, London etc), BUT with the the surging average home prices here (the cash-flow is not nearly as attractive as I was hoping). I started going down a rabbit hole looking at turnkey properties in the states (Kansas City, Memphis, Cleveland etc.) I know there are pros and cons to turnkey properties (but IMO, with the right due diligence, could be a great way to get started).

Would love to hear what people think of TK. Anyone that has done cross-border investments, would really appreciate hearing your experience with: avoiding double taxation, getting a foreign loan, working with turnkey companies, suggested CPAs/ legal. Any advice would be amazing, thanks!
