STR horror stories??

Question

Any horror STR stories anyone would like to share before I begin my journey??

Anyone have STR not leave the property ? I would think that one difference between STR and long term is not needing to file eviction of rent is not paid or am I missing something? Thank you!!

@Chris Klingemann I've been managing STR's for about 5 years now and have a few! The one that tops it for me is when the largest house I manage (5 bedrooms, 12 guests, average $650/night in high season) became infested with bedbugs in the middle of summer. There was a lag in us catching this as some guests did not experience anything. The kicker was that the owner of this home (and a friend of mine) wedding was just 3 weeks away-luckily he was nice enough to assist me with the process of refunding all the guests and removing items that couldn't stay in the home. We did the required heat treatment and waiting period but were out 4+ weeks of revenue in our busiest time. Although they could have been brought in by any group, the likely culprit was a bed bug infestation at the facility where the new bed frames we had purchased were produced or stored. They had been installed a few months prior-shortly after there were reviews all over amazon indicating that this same thing can happened to countless other people.

Second place is certain types of guests who have unrealistic expectations  and you literally cannot make happy-those that probably wouldn't even be content with a 5-star hotel stay. I've been blamed for ruining a ski vacation while our entire geographical area was under a 48 hour blizzard warning ( warnings to not step outside, absolutely no driving, town cannot keep up with snow removal, nothing open) But these guests are few and far and at least now I can laugh about it!
