So I’m planning to build a bathroom and a bedroom down at our basement. I wanted to add to our house/property record later on so I’m planning to get a permit. Do I have to get a permit for both bath&bed room or just a bathroom is fine? And how about the permit for electricity? As well as do I need a sketch or a draw of the construction? And if my basement is walkout then do I still need a emergency window for the bedroom? Thank you!
@Yeri Kim, the local Building Department will have their own requirements. Where is the property located?
In Chicagoland, many of the jurisdictions will require drawings to be submitted which show any Architectural, Electrical, Plumbing, and Mechanical changes. This is all typically covered in one submittal; all though there may be "separate permits" for each trade. Depending on the scope of work and your jurisdiction, you may need drawings stamped by a Licensed Architect as well.
