Long Island House Hacking

Hello, I recently finished my undergraduate degree in physics and civil engineering and will be taking 1 more year to do my master's in structural and earthquake engineering design. I will be 23 when I finish in May 2021 and want to get started house hacking soon after graduation, as I have experience project managing residential construction, have followed BP and other podcast/ read books for the last 2.5 years, and have some money saved up (I wont buy right after graduation, thinking like 4-6 months in to stack a few more dollars). I live in Rockville Centre NY on long island and as many places in NY the towns around me have taxes from 10-15k per year. I have done some preliminary research into some towns with more affordable house and taxes closer to 5k but wanted to see if anyone has some hidden gems on long island or even NJ (if I was to work in the city). 

Also is anyone in any long island RIA's, meet ups, or facebook groups that you could refer me to. (not the ones on BP meet ups, I got that lol)
