Creating a logo for my website and business cards

I am trying to make a logo for my business, nothing very complicated, mostly I just need to be able to assemble some basic shapes and do recoloring. I was wondering if anyone could recommend some software that is helpful, or maybe a company that can take images drawn and transform them into computer images. I never realized how hard it could be to design things on the computer. Any help is very appreciated!
