Choosing a real estate agent

Hi there,

I am in the fetus stage of learning about buying a home. I spoke to a real estate agent and asked their fee and they told me don't worry about that the fee. The real estate agent/broker selling the home and my real estate agent will discuss and settle on a price. This sounds shady but like I send I am new to this. Is this normal, shouldn't I know this before I decide to use a real estate agent?
