When is the best time to get a home inspection when purchasing your first property. Should you get the home inspection before renovations or after?

Hi @Gordon Davis,

100% conduct one before you buy the home. You should have an inspection contigency in your purchase agreement with the seller that allows you the right to inspect the home. This is typically done at the very beginning of you going under contract. The inspector may uncover problems with the home that are not easily remedied, and allow you the right to walk away from the contract without losing your deposit, or being forced to buy a home with issues. With that same thought, the inspector will uncover items of every degree of size, that you will want to fix or correct during the renovation.

You can also hire a home inspector to create a punch list after the home has been renovated, so you know all the little items that need to be corrected that you share with your contractor to mend before the home is listed for sale or for rent.

Good luck!
