investing in singapore
Hello, I am a new investor who is aspiring for financial freedom but am having trouble starting up. This is because I currently live in Singapore where the properties here are sky-high which gives me little/no hope of entering this market. My government have strict regulations on HDBs and condos are just out of the question. I also have done some research and realized most Singaporeans are investing overseas which scares me because I no longer have power to oversee my properties especially if I do not have a capable property manager. A new investor like me would probably fail to get the ropes and investing overseas as my starting up property feels like an impending failure. It would be amazing if anyone could help me out of this dilemma, especially successful Singaporean investors.
P.S. I do not have a large captial and am currently a student too but I am willing to sacrifice my free time to achieve my dream.
Thanks
Sincerely,
samuel

Hi Samuel - I wish it wasn't so, but you may be in the worst market on earth for a small scale real estate investor. Singapore's limited inventory (the whole country is one island), high demand, and strict government regulations (long term leases instead of true ownership), make this an expensive market and the only big margins I've seen are in large-scale commercial rentals. You could look into short term rentals like AirBnB that you could rent and then re-rent at a margin, but it'll be hard to build long term equity. Other than that, I would look into nearby countries.
Where there's a will there's a way. Good luck!
