Set For Life - Making Me Wish for a Redo on Life

Dwagne Haskins

Posted

My wife and I just finished graduate school about a year ago. We're currently 60% thru reading Set For Life, new to the real estate scene and wishing we could do it all over. Neither of us come from educated or financially literate families so we did what we thought was best. Unfortunately that involved taking out a ton of student loans that are now keeping us from qualifying for real estate loans!!

If I knew then what I know now.....I would have NEVER gone to college. I would've taken up a trade, been a real estate agent, or taken on some other commission-based job.

@Dwagne Haskins

Dwagne,

Don't be discouraged by your situation.  I personally believe you are in a better place than most.  You and your wife are both educated and therefore have the abilities to get high paying jobs.  I would put my efforts at this point towards that.  Never down grade your education its invaluable.

Once both of you have high paying jobs then you can put a financial plan together to start paying off your student debt, saving and then getting involved in real estate.

A couple of things to keep in mind to be successful in the future.

1. You and your wife have to be on the same page financially towards your goals (make sure you consult with her because without her buy it will be almost impossible to be successful)

2. Make sure you live beneath your means in order to achieve your financial goals

3. Make sure you pay your bills on time to have the highest credit score you can have

4. Make a plan and stick to it.

There is no magic pill, solution or path to success.

Good luck and be patient you will be successful as long as you have a plan and work hard implementing it.
