How to find the right tenants?

Daniel Sabato
Posted

I am very new to RE but I will be starting up with my first property shortly. It’s a duplex, I’ll be living in one unit myself, & I will be renting out the other unit. 2 bedroom, 1 bath, just your standard apartment in a suburban neighborhood right outside NYC (7 miles). Good access to NYC, Jersey City, Hoboken by bus, train, or car.

I’m wondering what is the best way to go about finding tenants in this situation? I’m not in a crazy rush, I budgeted for vacancy for a few months obviously. I also know this market around the NYC/NJ area is probably different than other parts of rhe country. Has anyone had success with any certain method? Has anyone had major issues finding tenants? I imagine in this area if the price is fair, finding tenants won’t be an issue as the demand in & around NYC/NJ is very high.

Thanks!
