Opinions on local REIA groups

I'm curious what other's experiences have been at the local REIA meetings. I've only attended the my local group twice. Both times were forty-ish minutes of story telling / soft sale, followed by fifteen to thirty minutes of hard sell. The second meeting the presenter was asked if what he was selling (Robocalling) is actually legal. He tried not to answer the question for a minute, then the questioner stated, "not that it's a problem!". At that point he admitted, yes, it's not "strictly legal". So basically, this isn't legal, I'm not doing it, but pay me $1997 and you can do it. I walked out at that point and haven't been back.

That's a long way to ask the question, "What benefit does the local REIA group offer?".  I don't have a lot of free time, so where to invest it is very important to me, and I don't want to through out something worthwhile due to one negative experience.

So, why, or why not, do you attend the local REIA meetings?

Hi @Richard Elvin. I've had similar experiences at our local REIA meetings (both GAREIA and Atlanta REIA).

The sales presentations aren't the point: The real value is in the networking.

The next time you go to a REIA event, I propose you get there early (or stay late) to run into the "greybeards" (both male and female, btw) who are actually investing the way you want to. Spend time helping them appreciate your sincere commitment to applying what you learn and then prepare to swim in the vast ocean of wisdom these folks have to impart.
