Should I join my local REIA club if I am just starting out?

@Richard Salazar Absolutely! Go to all the investor meetings you can find to learn the language and find your vendors (contractors, lenders, attorneys, etc.) as well as to meet others in your area doing the same thing you're wanting to do.

Also check out investor meetings on MeetUp.com and look for landlord meetings. These are the places you will learn the business and learn who the movers and shakers are in your area.

The best REIA I know of in your area is Metrolina REIA. Their main meeting is the third Thursday of every month at 7pm. Search for them online and get to the next meeting!

yes. Find the ones that don't try to sell you anything. Go network and meet others.

More importantly, show up consistently. A lot of newbies that I meet in REIA don't show up again.

Thanks Karen for the tip. I went to my first Metrolina REIA meeting  three weeks ago. I liked it very much. I am going to sign up next meeting. I am going to check out meetup groups also.

@Richard Salazar, most definitely!  That's where you will learn about local laws, market rates for rent, house values increasing or decreasing, meet potential partners, title companies, hard money lenders, private lenders, etc.

Some of the REIA's are lame and all about just having one speaker after another who tries to sell you into their 3 day then coaching.  Try different ones until you find the right fit.  Also, as @Karen Rittenhouse mentioned, look on meetup.com for meetings too.

I go to mine also...I reaped the rewards at the last market crash. And got my meet ups also. I'm starting a land development company.....I like to play big and send the fearful home ::-) just stared mid summer landed a build to suit deal...working on that as for owner fiance offered for my start up...and the other 10 acres. No help at all just myself. I'm do for a assistant. 40 yrs to observe and construct in this industry. I decided my turn to be the giver.
