How does High Schooler Start?

Question

Hey people.
Im 18 years old going into my last year of High School.  I've all of sudden lately had this feeling that real estate is thing I got to be doing.  I mean seriously it is a lot of work finding real estate but what a sweet job.  I've always known that I dont want a boring job where I have a boss and work 9-5 and I've always known I want to make some big money at the same time.  So with that Im wondering if I want to invest in real esate in the future how should I start.  First off Im going to college in a year and Im planning to take like Bussiness/Economics as my major but not sure if this is going to help me in anyway.  I feel I have to go to college, but basically Im unsure where I should start out here?   any help would be great! thanks

cprntr, I am also a youngin' getting into the game of real estate.  I hope to own my own real estate development/new construction firm.  Would you suggest that a brokers license is necessary right away?  (anyone is welcome to give advise!) :type:

I'm going to grad school for my MBA and have 2 choices.  One is in Florida with a concentration in real estate, the other is So Cal with a concentration in entrepreneurship.  I believe the question is obvious haha, but I'd like to stay in california.  But the FL mba will put me on the fast track to become a broker.

There is not just one "all purpose" book about real estate. There are different areas of RE as Juzamjedi has stated. You may want to research each of the areas that he mentioned and then we can recommend books to help you.

I really want to get going on this now somehow I want to put my feet in the door of the real estate world.  do you think someone would hire me Im in High School I dont think someone would hire me as a bird dog b/c i dont know anything about real estate. Not amatter of hiring you...I work with alot of young people and get them going becaue we are there to hold their hands and hued them. Real estate education is what you need.

FYU; I boughtmy 1st home at 19 years old...I am (UGH!) now 50, so it's been a great ride. I wanted to leave the legacy of education to my duaghters, not just wealth...

I built my daughters credit scores with mine since she was 15. She had her first investment home at 19 and her scores are 759.....having your parents get your scores up are first thing and get with your local meetings and network network network. She's now 20 yrs old.

I think the idea to pursue Business is a great idea.  Even if you only work for yourself, you should still run yourself LIKE a business.  NEVER STOP LEARNING, especially about Business.  When you think you know it all, look behind you, most of what you have learned will have changed.

You can find a lot of information in books stores that you can pay thousands of dollars for from TV infomercials, although I used to watch Carlton Sheets every morning before I would go to work. I would get motivated before I walked out the door from watching him. I would definitley begin saving as much money as you can and possibly start by purchasing a home that you could live in. Maybe a duplex that you could live in and rent out the other side. Many people have taken this route and were able to live almost for free because of the rental income from the other unit. That is what I would do if I were starting out again.

Well...why not go to the articles section of this very website
and begin reading there. It's free. And it's good.

Articles like: "Bird dogging 101" which will explain what that
is and how to get started.

While you are in college you can be doing Real Estate Stuff.
You can do it in High School too if you're 18.

But find your niche. (personally...I would trade Forex while in
High School but don't get me started  :wink: )

Im envious of how early you want to start. Thats great. Like others have said, get some books and take some RE classes. See if you can get into a local realtor and see if they will pay for classes, but also see what you are locked into. Your young enough where you can work with big company and learn the ropes for a few years then venture out and Rule the world. hehe. Good luck and God SPeed to you !!!

Get a license as well. Florida allows online education and you should start ASAP with an accredited RE licensing school.
