REI Meetings

Thank you for ahead of time for reading this post! My question is as a new investor just starting out looking to network with investors...what is a REI meeting like? How did you as a new investor ask seasoned investors questions at the meeting? Did you approach them and say I'm a newbie and I'd like to help in anyway if I could just ask you for some advice. Up here in the bay area of California, REI meetings are held once a month. Did you find more meetings outside of the REI website, private, local, company? I guess my main motive is to learn from someone else in the meantime offering an investor my time to help them in return for some of their time. Any input would be very much appreciated.
