Downloading census data

I'm getting ready to buy a few more rental properties and I'm trying to narrow my focus. I'd like to download some income, employment, and housing data so I can analyze a few of the zip codes I like. I've spent about 40 minutes trying to find downloadable data on census.gov, but it's confusing for me. Does anyone know how to download that information so I can put it in a spreadsheet?
