Challenges When Starting Out

Hi all –

I have a question for all the new, and soon to be new real estate investors out there; experienced investors, feel free to chime in, let us know what challenges you overcame when starting out.

What are the challenges that are stopping you, or slowing your progress as a real estate investor?

I know it will be the same for a lot of people; I have a lot of challenges that are slowing me down, I'll start off with some of the challenges I can come up with just off the top of my head and that I see and hear mentioned on this site quite often:

Analysis paralysis.  I'm afraid of failure, so I never really get started.  I'm always looking for the best way to do something and never end up doing it because I'm looking for a level of perfection that doesn't exist.

Shiny object syndrome.  I move from subject to subject without fully committing to the first idea.  I don't have the faith in my initial idea to follow through with it and end up abandoning it before anything happens with it.

What's stopping you?

Analysis paralysis is terrible for beginners, especially for me. It still gets me now sometimes. The shiny object syndrome seems like more of a veteran issue, which I have too.

Business wise, financing has always been the challenge, especially since we're buy and hold investors. So we are constantly looking for new private loans from ma and pa types. And while there are plenty out there, they aren't the easiest to find.
