Real Estate License? Yea and nah?

Shawn Nofziger
Posted

Hello,

I am JUST getting into this and was wondering if there is an advantage to getting my real estate license or do most people do this without one?  I don't want to go through with getting one (which I wouldn't mind doing) if there really isn't an advantage.  I am really leaning toward multi family units.

If it matters I am in Central Michigan.

Thanks

Shawn

Quote from @Drew Sygit:

Many investors get their license for access to MLS and/or to save money on real estate commissions when they buy & sell.

It's a good strategy, but only if you are doing VOLUME!

Even if you are doing volume, why would you waste your time and not delegate?

Well said. And with all the platforms like Zillow, Realtor, Redfin, Trulia. etc... the MLS has lost its value for the most part. I actually prefer some of these search and map features over the MLS.
And those that think they can save $$ on commissions will be disappointed. Most sellers will laugh when you ask them to reduce the price by 3% because you're not using a buyer's agent.....You can buy and sell your own  properties without a license anyway...
