First time multi family rental buyer

Hey everyone,

I am currently employed full-time as a software engineer, but I'm interested in embarking on a real estate investment journey. I have the ability to save money, and I've accumulated approximately $40,000. I am seeking advice and guidance from individuals who have experience in owning multi-family properties with 2 to 4 units. I reside in the Orange County area of New York and am interested in investing in properties in this region or possibly in New Paltz, NY. Although I haven't yet explored the process of finding a real estate agent due to my lack of familiarity with it, I understand that they can be instrumental in facilitating the process. I am uncertain about the initial steps I should take to acquire my first property and would appreciate any guidance in this regard.

Thank you in advance!
