Trying to buy first property but in a big pickle!

So my girlfriend and I have been living together for some time now and we have been renting an apartment. As our lease is ending soon we have talked about maybe buying our own place. The problem is that I do not believe we will qualify for a loan because I am a 1099 and she is a server. She makes very good money serving and I think the majority of the issue will come from my last 2 years of taxes not being the best and moving back up to NH within that time. We have some money saved up and were hoping maybe we could afford a condo or something on the cheaper side that we could fix up as we live there. I have a construction background and remodel kitchens for a living so a place that needs work is right up my alley.

Anyway, I was wondering if anybody has any advice as to how I can make this happen. I am being told by people that it is not possible and I won't be able to do it. I am just trying to simply ask how can I do it?

Thanks for any help in advance!
