How do you measure success?

I'd like some advice on how to define goals. I'm just starting out and only have one SFR rental at this time. However, I'm having a hard time developing a vision on what I'm trying to accomplish. Financial independence is certainly a part of the equation, but is that aiming too low?

After reading Kiyoski, Keller, Turner and others, I feel that the sky is the limit given the right amount of persistence and focus. On the one hand, huge wealth sounds great. On the other, chasing big money feels a little hollow as an end in itself.

I’m asking the question because it impacts what type of deal I pursue next. How did you work out these questions and develop your own vision/goals? I appreciate any insights and personal experiences.
