Kmart to Close Last Mainland U.S. Store in the Hamptons

The once-iconic retailer Kmart is closing its final full-size mainland store in Bridgehampton, New York, on October 20th. Known for its "Blue Light Specials," the discount chain was once a retail powerhouse with over 2,000 stores across the U.S. However, years of financial struggles and competition from major players like Walmart, Target, and Amazon contributed to its decline.

Following the closure of the Hamptons location, Kmart will have just one downsized store in Miami, Florida. Although its mainland presence is dwindling, the chain will continue to operate in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam.
