WCG consistently disappointed me with their handling of our corporate and personal tax returns. They were late in preparing my returns, failed to communicate their progress effectively, and made numerous errors that I had to catch and correct. For example, in 2021, my 2020 tax return was delayed due to "technological issues" and I had to request an update multiple times before receiving a response. I also had to point out missing information, such as student loan interest, which WCG should have included. In addition, I had to contact my bank regarding PPP loan forgiveness because WCG failed to provide me with adequate guidance. In a separate instance, WCG admitted to communication issues and long turnaround times due to new software and growth. They also looked for any excuse to charge extra, including being dishonest about timelines and items needed to avoid significant "late penalties," regardless of whether it caused them extra work. My main accountant, Michelle Day, had horrible customer service and acted as if any question was a personal assault. Her advice was often incorrect, and any questions or requests for quick chats regarding new tax regulations were met with a very strict allotment of time. It was almost impossible to speak with her directly. WCG felt like a churn-and-burn standardized shop focused on templated solutions that were rarely thoughtful or optimized for my specific business needs. They also dropped us as a client after 4 years, at a very inconvenient time, with almost no notice because we questioned several absolutely ridiculous extra charges that were not warranted. They are unbelievably unprofessional and it is clear that only clients who blindly pay their extra fees are worth their time. In contrast, I've been thrilled with our new accounting service and wish we would have changed sooner. They have found additional tax savings, answered questions promptly, and legitimately cared about my business while being roughly the same cost. If you have a super simple operation and don't mind paying extra or never asking questions, then go with WCG (but avoid Michelle). Otherwise, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. I have countless emails and examples to back up all of these claims. Do not be fooled by seemingly low cost all in one fee. You get what you pay for and any savings will be eaten up by extra fees, missed tax savings opportunities, and your personal time due to bare minimum services provided.
