About us
At Doorstep, we’re not just another retail management company–we invest in real estate, too, just like you. So we know the hassle that short-term rental management can be, and that’s why we only focus on short-term rentals – we want to make sure your property gets the eagle eye attention it deserves. Beyond property management software, Doorstep is full of professionals that work 24/7 to ensure that property owners like you have successful short term rentals by meeting the needs of renters, leaving you to live your day-to-day life while collecting passive income. Because we’ve been in the short-term rental business for so many years, we know the stress and strain that comes with vacation rental property management – and if the stress is too much, it can mean losing out on an incredible amount of passive income. We want to ensure that property owners truly get the full worth of their rental. That’s why we offer our rental property analysis for free, and why our management fees are percentage-based. So let us take care of the hard work, and you can enjoy the reward.

I am currently renting from Doorstep for three months and I moved into an apartment that is pretty nice, with a big yard for my dog that I am happy about. There are some issues regarding cleanliness, though. About 1/3 of the front yard was covered in dog poop when we moved in and some of the dishes have dried food on them. There is carpet in the bedroom yet no vacuum cleaner, which is more than disconcerting, especially for a place that rents to people with pets. I want to be able to care for the carpet properly, but don’t have room to bring a vacuum cleaner with me (I am a traveling healthcare professional).
A few days after moving in, I was sitting at the dining table eating and it literally just collapsed and landed on my lap. It hurt and made a huge mess. It is four days later and my knee is finally feeling better. Also, there are four oxygen tanks on the patio—I am pretty sure it isn’t the safest situation to have them outside with fluctuating temperatures.
I filled out some maintenance requests on Sunday and hadn’t heard anything by Tuesday afternoon, so I reached out to Doorstep. Most property management companies I have dealt with in my 30 plus years of renting get back to tenants the business day after a request is made. Maybe I need to change my expectations in 2025. On the requests, I checked the box that no one can enter when I am not here because I have a dog that would not tolerate a stranger coming in without me present.
When I reached out, they told me that they had scheduled a maintenance man to come out on Wednesday (despite me putting that my day off was Tuesday on the maintenance request) to rectify the table situation. I responded that under no circumstances can they enter without my presence, stressing that it was not safe. They did not acknowledge this text, even after I requested conformation.
I took off two stars for the dangerous table and unsafe storage of oxygen tanks, the few dirty dishes, the poopy yard, the lack of a vacuum cleaner and for poor communication. Three stars for roomy, cute ,well-stocked place in a quiet neighborhood with a nice, big yard for dogs!
*EDIT* Removed another star. The oxygen tanks are still unsafely stored because they called the wrong company to pick them up, even though they are clearly labeled with the proper company. I let them know this and haven’t heard anything back. I also submitted a maintenance request for a piece of PVC pipe with a rough edge that is sticking out of the ground in the yard. It’s dangerous. They haven’t commented or addressed it.
Lastly , I recently had my dog made an emotional support animal based on the recommendation of my therapist. I was a victim of a violent attack some years back and have PTSD as a result. I had been in a really great place with that, so I did not include the fact that my dog is an ESA in the lease.
I was not going to request special accommodations, because I wasn’t utilizing her in that manner. I want to use the designation conscientiously, because I never want to be the cause of anyone else’s legitimate access being questioned.
I share a wall with some neighbors, and last week they were fighting violently twice. The second time we were out walking, and the fight was taken out on the sidewalk, with family members chasing one another. I was afraid to go home.
After this, I started relying on my dog to calm me. Since she was functioning as an emotional support animal, I requested special accommodations, which here is a reduction in rent of $150 a month (I was quoted rent with and without an animal at the very beginning before I signed a lease).
Doorstep refused my accommodation request because it wasn’t in the lease from the beginning. By law in Utah, special accommodations for emotional support animals must be honored. They are currently awaiting a response from the property owner. I now need the extra funds to begin working with my therapist again, since I’ve been triggered by the neighbors. I’m not sure that they understand the legality of what they’re doing.
