It's a lot like toothing-in tongue and groove flooring... typically on the last piece or two have to have the tongue or backside of the groove removed to install and a dab of adhesive often does the trick.If you opt to paint, use a primer/sealer first (such as Zinnser or Kilz), but know that the painting will be noticeable.
