The chemical reaction literally cooks it's self into a hard plastic. 

Although taking in information from others can be great, it can also be pretty harmful as well.

Don't do anything that will in the end cost you more money and place you in harms way.  

It also does no harm in presenting failed offers or re-introducing yourself to owners that have said no before. if something happens, and they need to sell NOW, they will probably go to someone polite they remember.

But when my wife truly realized I was doing this to create financial success for us and not putting us in harms way she became much more comfortable. 

Little house LLCs for asset protection cause more harm than prevent. 

The heat treatment is more expensive than the chemical treatment, but it works better. 

Additionally, without any legal assurances the process does not ensure that the debt will not come back to harm that person.   

How have you been harmed?

Again, not universal to any/all people, but in general yeah I see it doing more harm than good. 1 serious mistake is all it takes and that can wipeout months if not years of that "savings" of self-managing vs staffing for it.
