Add all that noise into the broader pivot AirBnB made to focus on boutique and luxury rentals last year and there's a lot of longtime hosts that simply fell off the search ranks, lost Superhost/Premier status, and are now nearly invisible on AirBnB in particular.

David Jacksone made another good point, just because you can invision someone paying your for information doesn't make it a marketable enterprise, they can call property managers and tenants usually don't see that as costing them anything.

You will see water usage drop 25% at a minimum doing this as the cost is not "invisible" to them anymore.Submeters can be purchased and installed for $150 each, and would pay themselves off in under a year.

If you can, try to take photos of black light or similar showing 'invisible' bodily fluids and ask the landlord to be reasonable.If it really really bothers you, get a quote from Home Depot and ask the landlord to split the cost to replace the carpet.
