You may only need to use them in the stubborn areas.Also, if the floor is a large area such as a 2 car garage and or has any cracks, you'll want to put down an isolation membrane first. this will keep the cracks from telegraphing through your tile.

I am not even sure if I get to the court as I am living out of state and I doubt if I can sue them for their stubbornness in doing stupid things.

I would try goof-off if its really stubborn, if it is stained wood I would look at some wood cleaners/ and possibly sand and refinish portion to match depending on area and quality of unit.Also give TSP a try.
