Now that many homes here are heated by gas, there is a concern that the previous owner failed to remove or decommission (fill with sand) the ust (underground oil tank) leaving a leaking UST that is contaminating the soil.

My point was contamination of the studs, bottom plate, joists, rim joists, etc, the sheetrock is replaced over the .....what could be contaminated framing, we don't have a good history to assess the issue or what chemicals could have been in the waters.The homes here were torn down due to the unknown, not because they couldn't be made to look pretty again.

Recently we went through home inspection for a house in NJ the home have a active UST, when the company came to test the soil for contamination it found that there were previous bores in the ground, it was apparent that a prior test was done.
