Insurance Claim for roof replacement

I opened the roof claim to see if the insurance covers everything. The adjustor visited home and based on deduction and deprecation, 45% of the roof will be paid by LM. However, while I was evaluating to replace or repair the roof ($200 for repair) as I have to pay $3k from my pocket for a replacement. The insurance company sends me a cheque for 45% of the total amount. I was wondering what are my options here:

1. To return the cheque, repair the roof instead of replacement and close the claim so it does not get reported in CLUE

2. To keep the cheque and repair the roof(no replacement) - How will they come to know if I have not replaced the roof as they have already paid me.

Any suggestions or guidance?

Originally, I was planning to close the claim and change the insurance company to get 100% coverage.

My new insurance company ran the CLUE report and nothing is showing up.
