Landlord’s insurance and Homeowner’s insurance?

Hello,

If we plan to live in one part of our duplex and rent the other side do we need to get both, homeowner’s insurance and landlord’s insurance? Wouldn’t landlord’s insurance kind of encompass the other one?

What @Casey J Burkhead a homeowners policy is it. Just make sure you let the insurance agent know it is a two unit with one owner occupied.

Hi Laura,You would only purchase homeowner's insurance in that case but you would indicate that it was a 2-family dwelling.
