Lapased Property Insurance

Hi all - Long time reader, 1st time posting here. I've done a bit of digging but wasn't able to find an answer - apologies if this has been covered.

If a home insurance policy lapses for more than 30-days, will it be a challenge getting a new policy after we complete a significant remodel (about 6-8 months)

I purchase a fixer upper about a year ago and insured it immediately. Recently, I was informed the policy would be cancelled because of the condition of the home and due to the fact that we haven't performed the updates to get it sound given it's taken a while to begin the remodel. The remodel is now under way and I've been speaking to a few companies around Vacant Home / Builders risk policies and was told today if I choose not to purchase a policy from them, it could be impossible to get the home insured once the remodel is complete and we move in.

Can anyone please advise? Thank you!
