Hey Orhi! My team and I have worked with lots of house hackers in the Chicago real estate market! Projected rents in Chicago compared to mortgage payments are pretty favorable. Think similar to CA rents but with sales prices about 1/2 of California's average. I'm a San Diegan and thinking about house hacking in Chicago myself within these next couple years!
