How will under population affect real estate?

Rita Merlo
Posted

I heard from a realtor friend that her networks are talking about how they foresee a big drop in population size as years go on. Millenials are not having kids or starting families much later. Does anyone have information about how this could affect real estate in the future? Thanks BP!

Millennials are 32-42 years over. Their birthing years are about over, or certainly will be in the next 10 years, so their family plans don’t really matter in regards to future population.

The UN’s prediction is our population GROWTH will slow in about 50 years but it will continue, and in 80 years we’ll only have 60 million more people than today. But I’d call that a far cry from a big drop.

I guess my long term plan is to be dead in 80 years. Then the “kids” can worry about decreasing population if it ever happens. Until then build and rent to an extra million people per year for the rest of your life.
