Home warranty vs repairs and maintenance

I’m confused about getting home warranty. If I purchase a home warranty does that offset putting money away monthly for repairs and maintenance or get both. If so it eats into the cash flow

do not get a home warranty. the one time I bought one for a client, at their request, their hot water heater blew and it was not covered. total waste of money. have also had attorney friends review fine print of policies and say the same.
