Does anyone know what this pump in the yard is?

Hey BPers, color me ignorant put does anyone know what this pump is?  It's in the backyard of a property I'm viewing, sprinkler system maybe?  Here is link to the picture.

There may have been a pool in the yard before, and been filled in with this pump just left there. We've had a house like that.

Or it's pumping oxygen to the people living in the bomb shelter under your house.

I'm with @Lucas P..  Definitely a bomb shelter (probably with people who have been in it since the 1950's). Don't worry.  You'll never know they're there.

Looks like a shallow well pump used for irrigational proposes. You can see the rust stains on the pipes as it appears its leaking.  My uncle had one those well pumps in Hialeah Florida in his backyard, They are common in South Florida as the water table is high.  He had to go only 20 feet deep to hit water. He was able to water his lawn for years. Make sure the sprinklers don't hit any structures as it may leave rust stains.

Okay all you guessers....it is absolutely a sprinkler pump, attached to a well, with the check valve at the surface, and three sprinkler zones....period.  Unless it's for the bomb shelter:)

It is a swimming pool pump. What it may be used for, if in use at all, who knows, my guess is you have a buried swimming pool. The lines are there for circulation and back flushing, but I didn't see the valve. That is a small pump for a pool, but it might have been an ornamental pond thing too, no telling. Disconnect it and sell it on EBay for $100.00 if it's not in service. :)

Not to antagonize, but if this is a potential rental property, I would cover the exposed wiring and use schedule 80 pvc for protection.

Looks a little different to the well pumps I've seen but if it is, it's a positive. Free water for the garden, that's a big deal... in Arizona and California anyway.

No, doesn't mean that.  If house is on a well, you'll have a similar pump, with other tank looking apparatuses up against the house somewhere.  Check along the street for water meters (city/county water).

@Wayne Brooks - makes sense, thanks!  If thats the case then is it likely the house is on well water as well?  I've never dealt with anything not on municipal, wonder if thats a deterrent for buyers?
