Anyone in the Providence RI area?

Hi, I’m a bit of a newbie on this Forum. I live in the Providence, RI area and in the market for a 3-4 family. I’ll be using a VA loan. Would love to connect with someone locally, and talk.

@Jason Cote welcome to Bigger Pockets! A VA loan is a great way to start (thank you for your service, of course), and I'm always happy to connect and talk about RI real estate (Providence or otherwise).

A 3- or 4-family is a good choice too as you'll have less competition from owner-occupants than a SF or 2F. Usually you get a slightly better deal on a 4F but you have to make sure it's fire coded, or budget for that, as the fire code requirements are tougher for a 4F (requiring a panel and inspections twice a year). And the biggest disadvantage are just that there are a lot fewer of them than 3Fs.

When people are back to meeting in groups again, you can also check out local groups such as the RI real estate investors group that meets monthly, and Black Diamond REI that's focused on southern Mass and also meets monthly.

Both groups have been doing virtual/Zoom meetings for the past few months, which I've found educational but not as good for making new connections as the offline meetings. So hopefully we'll be getting back to those sometime later this year.
