I only twitter when I'm near my wife. Is that the same twitter??

Oh man, I'm so obsolete. I better go read up what it's about. The whole time, I thought Twitter is a spam.

Well I'm happy to hear that you guys haven't invested anytime heading down the wrong direction with twitter. The whole twitter environment is still sorting itself out and you haven' t doomed yourselves to poor practices. Making a Facebook Page with a vanity url as another point of contact and somewhere to direct those who bite when you toss out a line to your personal social group. I'm part of the school of thought that has a personal and business facebook profile because I don't want to alienate myself from my personal group.

I Facebook, but Twitter is where I draw the line...No twitting!

For something that accommodates 140 characters Twitter sure seems to have a lot of if, ands, 'n buts around it. We've been using it for a couple of years now and above and beyond all else what we've found is that most people haven't evolve 'twitterily' enough to really make use of it in an efficiently beneficial manner... You may or may not have noticed that people who are savvy enough to be dangerous grasp twitter and immediately gun for as many followers as possible by pursuing the latest internet marketing guru fad such as following as many people as possible and banking on reciprocated return follows and then unfollowing non followbacker (typically using Twellow), buying twitter followers off eBay to the tune of $.01 or less per follower, or simply getting some VA off eLance to do it for you. With the recent glut of PeopleString, YourNight, and Insomnia Marketing Group type programs that "train" people social networking sites have become a room full of screamers, so there is a lot of static and the idea of being able to pick up organic followers is daunting. I run the Minnesota (MnREIA) here and we have an online training business that provides websites and when we use Twitter to push those businesses it is in a drastically different manner and mind frame than when we use it for investing and generating leads. But in both cases (micro & macro) Twitter is a supplemental marketing tool and an additional point of contact. If you don't already have a marketing campaign and presence that can stand on its own then placing your bets on Twitter isn't going to lead to a windfall of leads and profit. Regular people still have to grow into integrating the real benefits of Twitter into their life if we're ever going see the desired results that come with lead generation on Facebook, but with these God Forsaken PS, YN, IMGers poaching them as they seek information on how to use Twitter they'll be turned off for so long before something or someone comes along and properly explains it to them. Twitter is a tool and if you're doing it because people are telling you it's a must use tool then really do your research on it... a screwdriver is a great tool but it won't do you one iota of good if you're hammering a nail. Give this man a cigar! If there is no way for you to monetize your contacts on social networking platforms or to market yourself then you need to mindful of the amount of time you invest. How many people have actually sat down and thought about a comprehensive plan on how to market their business on social networking platforms?

Initially I was very skeptical of it as a social platform. I just couldnt understand why I would want to know what Demi Moore was doing, but now that I have used and understand it better, I can certainly see the appeal to it. Seems to be the hot new thing. Notice all the news cable shows are using it, local news, etc?
Thoughts?
