Hey guys, how does the local government view short term vacation rentals? What are the city ordinances, has anyone has any trouble with the local government in terms of short term vacation rentals and if the strategy is in fact legal and allowed what is the climate regarding that? Is it safe to assume that the local government won't pass ordinances against short term rentals anytime soon? Or do they allow it yet generally frown upon it?
This is very much a new industry so I would check with the city first to fully understand what is allowed in your area and what is not.
My vacation rental is located in Hawaii so they have been dealing with home sharing and tourism long before Airbnb and VRBO were born.
I also bought my place in a dedicated resort area where condo complexes were built with vacation rentals at the forefront. Although, there are always bills for change so you must stay on top of what is happening. In my case any changes are not to ban but to further control the home sharing process.
Do your due diligence up front and hire an agent that is well versed in vacation rental properties.
Be careful of str. In our area many cities are prohibiting. Neighbors don’t like the thought of a hotel next door. Too many people coming and going. There was a huge incident with drugs and guns on str a couple of years ago and many communities started banning them through zoning. Make sure your numbers work for long term rentals in. As
