What are the city ordinances on short term vacation rentals

Hey guys, how does the local government view short term vacation rentals? What are the city ordinances, has anyone has any trouble with the local government in terms of short term vacation rentals and if the strategy is in fact legal and allowed what is the climate regarding that? Is it safe to assume that the local government won't pass ordinances against short term rentals anytime soon? Or do they allow it yet generally frown upon it?
