Beginning in real estate

Hi there,  I am from Charlotte, NC and I’m wondering if anyone can help answer a few questions I have concerning becoming a real estate agent.  I’m thinking about making a career change and getting my license, but I’m concerned about earning potential within the first year and just starting out income being really low.  I’ve heard that you shouldn’t expect to make much your first year, while working long hours. Is this accurate?  How long would you say it takes to start moving with a good client base and a comfortable income?  Are you able to have a felexie schedule within reason? I have also heard the Charlotte area in particular is over saturated with agents, so that is also a part of my concern.  Any insights or tips to help me decide on this career move would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!
