Independence MO is the first city in the Metro to propose this ordinace and if it passes, will move on to other metro cities. We understand KCMO is next.SEE YOUR ATTACHMENT: THE CITY DETAILED PLAN .YOU NEED TO SHOW UP AT THE MEETING ON SEPTEMBER 6th at 5:30PM TO PREVENT ITS PASSAGE!!! See information below.
Recommendations:
Staff recommends approval.
Executive Summary:
This ordinance would establish an interior residential rental dwelling unit inspection. The program's focus is to protect the health, safety and welfare of the public. (SAME OLD BS ALWAYS USED TO STRIP YOU OF YOUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS AWAY, THEY ARE GOING TO PROTECT YOUR HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELFARE!!!)

the "Rental Ready" presentation made to the Independence MO City Council on 11 July 2016; the author of this document is unknown.

Phillip Thatcher, the president of Landlords of EJC has been approved as a Speaker at the Independence Council Meeting, he has been given only 5-min to speak; but, that should give him enough time to express our "points of opposition" to this Article. He will be speaking on behalf of all four of our groups: Landlord Legal Defense Fund, Landlords Association of Eastern Jackson County (LAEJC), KC Landlords Inc., and Mid-America Association of Real Estate Investors (MAREI).

ON TUES Sept 6th at 5:30 PM: We will meet as a group in the north parking lot in front of Independence City Hall, 111 East Maple, corner of Noland Road and Truman Road. The City Council chambers is in the basement of 111 East Maple. Hope to see all of you there. If you have specific concerns or topical points, related to this subject, that you want mentioned at the Council meeting, please email them directly to me so I collect them in preparing my script. THANK YOU!

Phillip Thatcher, President

Landlords Association of Eastern Jackson County (LAEJC)

PS: Don't forget to encourage people to contact their bankers, insurance agents, accountants, real estate agents, contractors and other landlords. Also contact the city council members. E-mails on city web site.

Thanks for being on our email list. Please take the time to send a message or forward or share on social media - this is also posted on the MAREI Facebook Page.

Thanks for putting the info out there Kim.  Very important to show up to this meeting. Not only if you are a landlord in Independence, but if you have rentals in Lee Summit, Blue Springs, and/or other neighboring cities in Kansas City. Everything I'm hearing is that they will be soon to follow with ordinances like this if it passes in Independence.
