Termite Control - Outrageous Quotes
I was outraged to see some of the quotes I heard back to do a termite/carpenter ant treatment just on the exterior of a house. I did some googling and came across a product that is relatively inexpensive compared to the quotes I was getting. A bottle of this stuff (Taurus SC Termiticide) is less than $50 and can apparently treat pests up to 10 years. I have no affiliation with the product but I think it is just insane that professional companies can get away with charging such amounts when some of the products they use are not even that expensive (and that non pros could still purchase). The website I bought it from is https://www.domyown.com/ (weird name, right?) and I will write a followup post in a couple months to see if this product actually works.

I'm familiar with and use that product. It's the generic of Termidor. Many termite companies use it and a termite treatment can be done by someone themselves but it's not as easy as it may seem on the surface. These are non repellent barrier treatments and the primary treatment is done by trenching around the foundation and pouring in the mixture of chemical. If a house is on a slab, it sometimes requires drilling through driveways, sidewalks, etc and injecting the solution into the soil through the holes. Also, for houses on piers or a crawl space with a block perimeter, each cavity in the block is drilled (usually from the inside of the crawl space) and solution injected into those holes. And for every concrete block pier under the house, same thing with drilling the blocks and injecting chemical. I watched pest control companies treat a couple different properties and then felt like I learned enough to do it on my own. Here in Georgia termites are prolific and treatments are important. These newer chemicals have a relatively short life compared to the stuff they used back in the day.
