Older duplex needs central air

Hey there fam,

I'm finding quite a few older 1930-1960's duplexes and fourplexes in my general area here in DFW that don't have central heat/air.  They are currently rented with window units/space heaters.  This would seem to me to be the first upgrade that is an obvious fix here in central Texas.

What's a ball part figure for a new system? Does it run price per square foot? Is each unit a separate bid?

Thanks all

Look into mini-splits, @Keelia Purscell. They provide both A/C and heat and don't require running any duct work. Cost will depend on a lot of factors: size of the units, how many head units are needed, how well air sealed and insulated they are, window placement and efficiency, difficulty of electrical and running the lines. You want your HVAC contractor to do a Manual-J calculation, which is used to properly size a unit. The units themselves start around $1200.
