Finder's fee for contractor who is doing work on the house?

How much do you pay your bird dogs for a deal you close on? My contractor brought me a deal (which requires work on the house which I would of course have him do despite him not being the most cost effective bid) and I had mentioned to him previously that I pay a finders fee.

Ive heard between $500-$1000 depending on the property.

Buying the house for $42k and he will be doing about $22k of work to rehab. He also has a property management arm of his business which I was intending on placing the PM with him.
