Is this aluminum wiring?

Sure looks like aluminum wire and looks like is been hot from the charring on the insulation.  Its not Al wire itself that's the problem, its the connections.  They get loose, resistance increase, the resistance causes heating and that causes fires.  This one looks like its well on its way.

looks like aluminum to me if color isnt distorted too much.  See how color of ends of coating is blackened,,,its been hot before.  Get a pros opinion before getting in THAT mess.

Here MOST alum wire is in mobile homes,,,havent seen any in a stick built house  ,,,but I havent seen them all!!

Could this be an old double wide or modular??

aluminum isn't the end of the world..in fact, many of my rentals have it..you just need to make sure you have the correctly rated receptacles/switches for aluminum, and that the conections are tight..it's good to check them between tenants as well, because aluminum can move as weather changes, and that's how they become loose and get hot....it doesn't happen overnight though...it takes a while for aluminum to shift...aluminum has a bad name, but if you take the necessary precautions, you should be fine...i've never had an insurance agent ask if i had copper or aluminum wires...they only ask if it's breakers or fuses...strange..have you checked with other insurance companies? farm bureau is pretty friendly with landlords and older rentals around me

Edit:  I should mention that I was talking about mobile homes, not single family.

Terry, since you are in Florida also, would you mind sharing what insurance carrier was willing to insure it? Did they charge you a higher premium because of the aluminum?

No, I don't think so--it's HUD.

It looks like my option is to have copalum connectors added (then there are a couple of insurance carriers that would be willing to insure it, if that were done). If that's too expensive I'll have to back out.

Definitely aluminum.  One of my rentals has it, and a lot of my 'Lonnie' deals have had it.
