How I got rid of a money pit
Hey everyone!
I recently bought my first house and I'm going to flip and hold it. My girlfriend and I hated the shed in the backyard (that took up about 1/3 of the usable space). So we tried to figure out what to do.
- throwing it away would be wasteful and expensive
Or
- keeping it would involve dumping money into it to fix it and make it look halfway decent and it's just something else a tenant can break
So we had the bright idea to post it on craigslist for "free to whoever can take it safely".
I had people blowing up my phone to come and see it. We got rid of it two days later to a happy family that needed it.
We had them sign a liability waiver and "supervised" as he took it apart and loaded it up on his truck. They were just as happy as we were.
If you're trying to get rid of something big or ugly (or both) just remember that there are recyclable opportunities that are good for your wallet!
