Using big box store installation vs finding your own contractor

I have used the installation teams from big box stores such as Lowe's and Home Depot for some projects for example,  flooring, siding, and windows. I have used this route a few times in my remodels because I'm pretty confident I'm getting a by the book install.  I've run into several problems with contractors in the past that may be cheaper but frustrating.  Any thoughts or opinions on utilizing the services from big box stores?
