As long as the direction is correct, the goal doesn't have to be specific

I believe in goals and especially written goals. When I first started writing goals down when I was in my 20's, I found the things I listed for 1-3 months were generally done in 2-3 days, the 6 month goals were done in about a month's time and so on.

It was an eye opener about myself that if I crystallized a goal, I could usually achieve it faster than I ever thought possible.

I also found that if a goal was on the list and I never took a step toward reaching it - then I removed it from the list - fast.

Something I set as a goal when writing them down, but never moved forward on it, was where many others spent most of their time, and why others never progressed. By eliminating it early - I was not distracted by it again.

Over time it also made me realize that my gut instinct - my conative capabilities - would always lead me in the right direction. The result may differ from my initial goal, but my gut was correct in leading me that way.

By the way Conative is NOT cognitive. Cognitive is what you know, Conative is how you act, think and take action.

So today at 50, I align my goals with my gut instinct. Yes I set a specific goal, but the goal may change as I move toward it.
