House hacking in San Diego using VA loan.

Hello, everyone!

I am new to the site but have been listening a long time. I've been in the Navy 8 years and own a home in Va beach that rents pretty well. I would like to do the same thing here and live in the unit. Since I have a VA loan in Virginia I know I have a cap on what I can buy here in SD. I have considered both Multi-family and single family. Currently, I am thinking of viewing a property that is about 600k. I have reached out to a agent here in the past but that was before I knew about the bigger podcast forums. I'm here looking for help with financing questions like what to expect as far as interest rate if I have around a 800 credit score and how much I am eligible for since it will be my second time using the VA loan. Additionally, I wanted to hear people's advice on whether I should continue with the agent I reached out to last year or if I should find a new agent that understands my intentions to house hack. Thanks everyone!

@Julian Pacheco

You're welcome Julian! Alright, I'll DM you his contact info/company. I completely understand your thinking, I was in the same situation when I started. The way I looked at it was that I was going to be the one making the purchase and I was going to be the one on the loan so I needed to have someone on my side who knew what it felt like and whose goals aligned with mine. It's completely normal to feel bad for someone who put in work for you already, but don't feel inclined to stay with an agent because it's your future that you're planning for, not theirs. If the agent wants what is best for you then they'll understand. If you do plan to interview other agents and go that route, the best thing you can do is communicate with your current agent and tell her why, out of respect. Good luck!
